Shaw Family Band
"Blessings from the Shaw Family Band! Our passion is to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ to everyone through God’s gift of music! We perform new arrangements to hymns, our own originals, unique blends of gospel, bluegrass, and sing with lots of family harmony. Our vision is to bring hope and encouragement to all ages and stages of life. We love God, love people, and love music. It’s an honor to combine all three when we give a concert!
Our band began when we started out as a few siblings playing our violins at nursing homes and retirement centers. Then, as our family grew, so did our band members. There are eight of us who currently perform.
Music has always been a part of our life and before official lessons were started, we would make up our own instruments to provide our own lessons. We would use pans for drums, two wooden dowels for a cello and two pencils to pretend we were playing the violin. The little ones just naturally wanted to do what we older ones were doing - Mom called it positive peer pressure.
Once we turned four years old, violin lessons with an instructor began. Our parents chose the violin to start us with because they felt it would be the most difficult to learn. They were determined to raise children with integrity and character and that meant carefully chosen challenges.
Music was used to teach us self-discipline, positive attitudes, diligence, hard work, perseverance, ....and many other good character traits learned when working toward goals and seeing them through.
After the violin was mastered, we would then focus on other instruments. Chase picked up the guitar and Cajón, Justus, the piano and bass, and the girls added other stringed instruments; mandolin, ukulele, harp, cello and banjo to their repertoire.
Traveling and recording CD’s started as a fun hobby, but now has become one of our family’s favorite businesses. We love meeting people everywhere we go. Many people ask what my parents do in the band. They are our biggest supporters and prayer warriors. Everyone has their roles. It takes teamwork. Everyone’s talents are utilized.
Johann Sebastien Bach said, “The aim and final end of all music should be none other than the glory of God and the refreshment of the soul.” Music is so important in life. God created it and loves to hear His creation singing and playing praises to Him. Music can speak love and wisdom, reaching to our hearts, when words by themselves cannot. When our family serves with music, we want our audience comforted, soothed, and inspired from it. Music is powerful!
Quotes are another powerful tool in our family. My Dad loves quotes and has collected many over the years to use for our benefit. Our parents felt it is much easier to remember important truths when packaged in quotes. So, quips, sayings, and proverbs became woven into their parenting style early on. We have them posted on our walls, printed up on signs, and now written in our hearts. We published a cookbook that includes all our favorite quotes and recipes.
Thank you so much for your prayers as we share His Gospel through music!!" ♥ Elley ♫
